Mask Workshop Preparation for Cardiff Design Festival

These are some preparatory Sketches from our young ‘wolf cubs’ – undergraduate Illustration students from Cardiff School of Art & Design. They have been devising mask making workshops for our Running with Wolves project as a part of Cardiff Design Festival this coming Saturday 5 October.

These sketches are the result of some collaborative work between Rosie Benn and Stephen Madoc-Pierce.

There are still a few places at these workshops available. They’re FREE to attend and open to all ages. You can book a place via our Event Brite page here.

We are delighted to have had our “Running with Wolves” project selected for inclusion in this year’s Stockholm Fringe Festival programme.

The Stockholm Fringe Fest mission is to shape a creative platform hosting artists from all over the world. Stoff welcomes the young, the old and everyone in between. The Festival is for those who want to explore, criticise, exchange, question, enjoy, be surprised and for those who simply want to be a part of a thrilling atmosphere where anything is possible.

What slightly differentiates STOFF from a traditional Fringe Festival is that our current primary focus is on promoting performance theatre and installation art; the new, the innovative and the cutting edge. As STOFF grows we hope to be able to diversify further and become a fringe festival open for all forms of artistic expression.

A number of our Wolves will be travelling to Stockholm this summer where we will be delivering mask making workshops as a part of STOFF in the Kulturhuset Stockholm building. These workshops will culminate in a daily procession around the venue and into the streets of Stockholm.

You’ll be able to join in with our mask making activities daily and there will also be opportunities to get involved online too so do bookmark our project page on this website for further information and updates or follow us on Twitter.

In the meantime check out the STOFF website for all the latest news from the fringe.

Kimberley Adams

‘We’, you and I, are the basis of Kimberley’s work. Kimberley examines elements needed to produce portraiture, investigating the displacement of the spectator and the subject; investigating the shift in spectator power relations and how much visual information contributes to a person’s identity and how displacement of the spectator and subject can be affected. In the history of art, people have sought to produce images either of themselves or of others and portraiture has become a source of endless interpretation, documenting and revealing subjects, however we can never ‘know’ the subject within an image.

Kimberley Adams’ current work ‘Look’ invites the spectator to seek out the portrait of the artist as no image is provided. The portrait will be realised at a glance, through conversation at private viewings, through the introduction of friends, it may even take place at home when researching the artist. The way in which the spectator views this portrait highlights the many ways in which contemporary portraiture should be viewed.

‘So come with me where dreams are born and time is never planned. Just think happy things and your heart will fly on wings forever in Never-Never Land’
- Peter Pan

Born in the late great summer of nineteen eighty something Spike Dennis displayed an aptitude for making and creating at a young age primarily through his love of playing with Duplo™ and Stickle Bricks. He spent several years floating around inside his own dreams imagining that he was roaming the mountain tops in the far north, chasing the Lunar Hare with a fish knife, before eventually giving up his preschool toys in exchange for some paints and brushes.

Spike trained at the prestigious Wimbledon School of Art in London where he was taught the deepest darkest secrets of the age old tradition that is Fine Art Painting. He later completed his Masters Degree in Fine Art following which he developed his purple tendencies, a lust for unicorn porn and a textiles based arts practice.

With a penchant for big hair, acrylic paint and peroxide Spike won’t be satiated until he has taken his distorted visions of the world around us to the furthest reaches of the universe.

Glo’s fascination for the female form is interpreted through her photographs of performance artists, particularly burlesque & Vaudeville, as well as Alternative models & muses.

Glamour & sparkle, or dark and gothic, covering or revealing, Glo’s photography is all about the female.
Inspiration & influences come from a childhood spent watching with Hollywood Glamour & Hammer Horror films, while spending teenage years growing through the punk & often mislabelled ‘New Romantic’ eras.
